H. L. Carpet & Handicrafts

Out here in Daribpur, things move a little slower than in the big cities. H. L. Carpet & Handicrafts is located right in the Palaia area. If you come by, you’ll mostly hear the sound of work being done and maybe some music playing in the background. We make carpets and various handicrafts. It’s mostly hands-on stuff. The air usually smells like wool and whatever materials we are using that day. We aren't a big factory with robots; it’s just people sitting down and putting things together. Some of the patterns take a really long time to finish, and your back can get pretty sore by the end of the shift. Daribpur is a quiet place, which is nice for focusing on the details of a rug or a carved piece. We don't have a big sales floor or a receptionist. Usually, if someone stops by, one of us just wipes our hands and goes to see what they need. We’ve had some of the same workers for a decade now. They know exactly how a carpet should feel when it’s done right. We don't do much to promote ourselves because the work usually speaks for itself once someone sees it. It’s a simple life here in Palaia. We just keep our heads down and keep making things that we hope look good in someone’s house. It’s honest work and it keeps the lights on for our families.
