We are located over in Industrial Area A, specifically at spot 250, which is where Guru Nanak Machine Works Regd has been for a long time. The sound of metal hitting metal is what you hear first when you get close to the gate. It is a loud place, full of heavy lathes and drills that have seen better days but still work hard. The floor is stained with oil that never really comes out, no matter how much sawdust we throw down at the end of the shift. We spend the day cutting iron and turning parts for other businesses nearby. My clothes are usually ruined by lunchtime with grease stains, but that is just part of working with machines. We do not have a fancy office or a receptionist; if you need something, you just walk into the shed and find one of us. The air is thick with the smell of cutting fluid and cold steel. Sometimes the power goes out in the industrial area, and everything goes silent for a while, which feels strange. We just sit outside on the wooden benches until it comes back on. It is hard work, especially when the weather is humid and the metal feels sticky to the touch. We just keep the machines running and make sure the measurements are right on the pieces we finish. It is just a regular machine shop doing what needs to be done. We keep things moving and try to finish our orders on time.
