Our steel yard is over in Dhandari Kalan, not too far from the old Surjit Cinema. If you are in the area, you cannot miss the sound of metal clanging against metal. We deal with heavy steel all day long, so there is always a crane moving or a truck backing in to be loaded. The yard is mostly dirt and gravel, which turns into a bit of a muddy mess when it rains. We have stacks of bars and sheets piled up high in the open air. Rust is just a part of life here, and you get it on your skin and your clothes within minutes of starting work. It is a tough environment. We don't have a fancy showroom or chairs for people to sit. Most of the time we are just out in the yard measuring lengths and loading up orders for the day. The sun beats down on the metal and makes it very hot, so you have to be careful how you handle it. We have been near Surjit Cinema for years and have seen plenty of people come and go. It is a loud, rough place to work but it is what we know how to do. We spend our time checking the weight of the loads and making sure the stacks are steady. There is no corporate talk here, just the daily grind of moving heavy steel around Dhandari Kalan.
