The air around here usually smells like steam and whatever dyes we are using that day. It’s a wet job. The floors are almost always damp and we all wear heavy boots to keep our feet dry. It’s not a quiet place either, with the vats and the finishing machines running constantly. Being near Gandhi Bazar means there is always a lot of movement outside our gates. We don't have a glossy brochure or a sales team. We just deal with the fabric that comes in and make sure it goes out looking the way it should. Sometimes the colors are tricky to get right, but we stay until the job is done. It’s a lot of manual labor and standing on your feet all day. We’ve seen the area grow and change, but the core of what we do stays the same. We take the raw material and finish it up. There is no magic to it, just a lot of heat and hard work. People in the trade know where we are. We just keep our heads down and focus on the batches we have to finish before the sun goes down. It's just what we do.
