Doaba Marbles Building Material is situated on Street No 14 in Shimlapuri, right near Kwality Chowk. If you walk down the street, you can’t miss the stacks of marble and stone slabs leaning against the walls. It is a dusty business, and our clothes are usually covered in a bit of white powder by the end of the day. We keep a variety of building materials here, mostly focusing on flooring and stones that people need for their houses. The yard is quite big, and we have trucks coming and going, unloading heavy crates. It is hard work, moving these heavy pieces around, and we spend a lot of time outside in the sun. We have a small office area where we sit down with customers to work out the measurements and the costs. There is an old ledger on the desk where we keep track of the stock. We don’t have a fancy website or anything; people just come by the chowk and ask for what they need. Sometimes we help them load the materials onto their tempos. The neighborhood is industrial and busy, so there is always noise from the nearby shops and the traffic. We have been at this location for years, and we know the other traders on the street well. It’s a plain, hardworking business with no frills. We just supply the stones and try to get the orders right for the local builders.
