Darshan Singh And Bros is our family business over at 208 Dashmesh Nagar. We are located right on Tilak Road, which is usually quite a busy stretch of road. We’ve been in this building for many years now, and the walls are covered in old calendars and marks from where we used to measure things. We don't really have a specialty that we shout about; we just handle the mechanical and hardware work that comes our way. The name on the sign is my father’s, and we just kept it that way because everyone in the neighborhood knows it. The workshop has a heavy metal shutter that we roll up every morning around nine. Inside, it’s mostly just shelves of parts and some old machines that still work better than the new ones. We spend a lot of our time talking to the people who stop by, mostly regulars who have been coming to us for decades. The work is dirty and our hands are usually stained with grease by lunchtime, but that is how it goes. We don't have any fancy computers or systems here. We write things down in a big ledger and keep track of everything ourselves. It’s a slow pace compared to the big city shops, but it works for us and the people who live around Tilak Road. We like it that way and plan to stay as long as we can.
