Our place is down in Giaspura on the Jaspal Bangar Road. We’re quite close to the Jaspal Dharam Kanda, which is handy because there are always trucks getting weighed right there. The road can get pretty dusty when the wind picks up, so we’re always dusting off our desks. It’s a practical workspace, not a showroom. We deal with a lot of hardware and supplies, so there’s always the sound of metal clanking or things being loaded onto flatbeds. The guys out back are usually covered in a bit of soot or grease by lunchtime. We don’t have a big marketing department or anything like that. It’s just a few of us making sure orders get filled and the inventory is right. We know most of the drivers by name since they’ve been coming here for years. Sometimes we sit out front on wooden stools when it’s quiet. The air smells like diesel and earth. We don’t use any complicated systems, just old-fashioned notebooks and a computer that’s seen better days. If you need something, you just ask. We don’t do the whole corporate handshake thing. We just talk like normal people. It’s a tough environment but we like it here. There’s a tea stall just down the road that makes the best snacks, and that’s usually where you’ll find us if we’re not at the warehouse. It's a simple life for us here in Giaspura.
