If you’re ever at the Khazana Complex on Kanpur Road in the Aashiyana area of Lucknow, you’ll find us at Sr-1. We have been serving Punjabi style food here for a while. It’s a small operation, mostly focused on the lunch and dinner rush from the local neighborhood. Aashiyana is a busy place, and being inside the complex means we get a lot of people who are out doing their shopping. We don’t have a lot of space, just a few stools and a counter, but it’s enough for what we do. The kitchen is right there so you can see everything being prepared. We use the same spices and methods we learned from our parents. It’s not modern or trendy, just basic cooking that fills you up. Sometimes the traffic on Kanpur Road makes it hard for people to reach us, but we still have a loyal group of regulars. We don’t use any fancy language to describe our food. It’s just dal, rotis, and whatever vegetables we got from the market that morning. Some days the paneer is softer than others, or the gravy is a bit spicier, but that’s what happens when you don’t use factory-made mixes. We are just local people serving other local people. If you want a quick, heavy meal that reminds you of home, we are usually around from noon until late.
