Anand Rice Trading Co. is situated out on Sultanpur Road. It is a practical location because the big trucks have plenty of room to turn around without making a mess of the local streets. We don't have a flashy sign or a lobby. It’s basically a big shed with a small office tucked into the corner. The heat can be something else during the summer months, especially under that tin roof, so we keep the big doors open to catch whatever breeze comes off the fields. We handle a lot of volume during the peak season. I’ve got my nephew working with me now, helping to keep track of the loads coming in and going out. We spend a lot of time on our mobile phones, calling around to see what the transport situation is like. It’s not a glamorous job, but it’s steady. We don't have any big slogans about our values. We just show up every morning at seven and start the day. The concrete floor in the yard is cracked in a few places from all the heavy weight over the years, but it holds up. We usually have a stray dog or two hanging around the gate, and we give them some scraps. It’s just a normal workplace for normal people. We focus on the grain and making sure the numbers in the book match what’s on the truck.
