Vishwalaxmi Organic Producer Company Limited

Vishwalaxmi Organic Producer Company Limited is a group effort by farmers here in the Latur area. We are currently operating out of Ashok Shiwaji Lakhpate’s place in Tandulja. It is a small village and everyone knows everyone else, so word travels fast. We decided to go the organic route because we saw what the chemicals were doing to the ground over the years. It is a lot of extra work to do things naturally, but we think it is worth the trouble. Our meetings are usually held under a tree or on the porch, talking about seed prices and the next harvest. Latur can be a hard place for farming because of the water issues, so we have to be smart about what we grow. We are a producer company, which means we are all in this together as a collective. We don't have a big marketing budget or a fancy office in the city. We are just people with dirt under our fingernails trying to figure out a better way to sell what we grow. Sometimes the paperwork gets confusing and we have to ask for help, but we are getting better at it. It is just about keeping the tradition of farming alive while trying to be a bit more organized about the business side of things. It is a long journey but we are taking it one season at a time.
