Zp High School sits right off the Kurnool Road in the Patha Peta area. It’s a very straightforward, no-nonsense kind of place. The building is often a bit dusty because of the big trucks passing by on the main road all day, but we do our best to sweep it out every morning before the first bell rings. We have a large open area out front that’s mostly just dirt and gravel. The kids play there anyway, even when the sun is really hot. Most of the students come from the surrounding villages and they walk quite a way on the dusty paths to get here. We have old wooden desks that have seen many years of use, and the walls could definitely use a fresh coat of paint, but the classrooms are big and airy. The teachers here have been around for a long time. We know most of the families living in Patha Peta by their names. Life is quite slow around here. We don’t have any computers or fancy screens, just the basics like white chalk and some old maps hanging on the walls. When it rains heavily, the sound on the metal roof is so loud that you can’t hear the teacher speaking, so we just stop and wait it out for a bit. It’s a practical school for local people. We don't have any big ceremonies. We just focus on the lessons and making sure the kids understand their books.
