Alqamar Hifz College

Alqamar Hifz College is found on the Kattangal Koduvally Road in Kozhikode, 673572. It’s a fairly quiet place compared to some of the bigger schools around, mostly because of the type of study the students do here. Since it’s a Hifz college, there is a lot of memorization and quiet reading going on throughout the day. You can often hear the sound of the students reciting their lessons if you walk past the open windows. The humidity in Kozhikode can be a lot sometimes, so we try to keep the rooms as airy as possible. We don't have any of that corporate polish or fancy mission statements. It’s just us, the teachers, and the students sitting together. The building is simple and doesn't stand out much from the other structures on the road. We have a small staff and we all know each other pretty well. Most of the people who come here are from the nearby areas. It’s a very specific kind of environment where the focus is entirely on the religious texts. We don’t have much in the way of high-tech gadgets or modern office furniture. It’s just wooden benches, books, and a lot of concentration. The rain comes down hard in this part of Kerala, and we often have to pause and wait for the sound on the roof to quiet down before we can continue. It’s a very human, local way of doing things.
