Maa Fast Food

Maa Fast Food is situated at number 49 on Jhalawar Road in Jawahar Nagar. It’s a busy stretch of road, so there’s always something happening outside. We start the day by prepping the vegetables and getting the pans ready. The smell of frying oil usually fills the space by mid-morning. It’s a small shop, and the kitchen takes up most of the room. We have a few tables, but a lot of people just take their food and go. The walls have a bit of soot from the cooking, but we scrub them down when we can. Working on Jhalawar Road means we deal with a lot of dust from the traffic. We keep the water jars filled and the plates stacked high. It gets really hot near the stoves, so we try to stay near the door when we aren't cooking. It’s a family-run kind of thing, so we all chip in with the chores. We don't have a menu that's too long, just the things we know how to make well. People in Jawahar Nagar seem to appreciate that. We’ve been at number 49 for a good few years now. The evening rush is usually the hardest part of the day, but we get through it. It’s honest work. When the sun goes down, the street lights make the road look completely different. We usually finish up and head home quite late. It’s a tiring job but it pays the bills and keeps us going.
