Kitchenmate is our little shop over on the Dhanmandi Men Post Office Road. We sell all kinds of things that people might need for their kitchens, like steel pots, frying pans, and small tools for cutting vegetables. The shop is quite narrow, so we have to stack the boxes pretty high toward the ceiling to fit everything in. Sometimes you really need a ladder just to get a specific size of pressure cooker down for a customer. The road outside is always full of people because of the post office nearby, so there’s a lot of noise and foot traffic throughout the day. We usually open up around ten in the morning after I’ve finished my tea at home. It’s definitely not a quiet place, as you can always hear the scooters and rickshaws zooming past the door. I’ve worked in this spot for a long time now, so I know exactly where every single spoon and lid is tucked away. People often bring in their old cookers to see if we can fix a broken handle or a leaky valve, and we do our best to help them out right there. The lighting inside isn't great, so we keep a torch handy to find things in the dark corners. It looks a bit messy with cardboard everywhere, especially on delivery days, but we manage to find what we need. It’s just a regular shop for regular people.
