Down in Talwandi, things can get pretty busy with all the shops and people moving around. Kalpana Decor is just tucked in here, doing what we do every day without much fuss. Most of our time is spent untangling long strings of fairy lights or checking if the artificial flowers still look okay after being stored in boxes. It is a lot of climbing up and down shaky ladders. My back usually hurts after a long shift of putting up drapes at some local venue. We started this because there was a need for it in the area, and we just stayed. The shop isn't very large, so things are piled up quite high towards the ceiling. You might see us sitting on a wooden stool outside when the sun is out, just watching the traffic go by and waiting for a customer. Sometimes a person comes in wanting something very specific for a birthday that we don't have, so we try to find a workaround with what is on the shelf. It is mostly about making a room look decent for a night and then taking it all down the next morning. It is strange how much stuff you need just to decorate a small room. We have boxes of ribbons and old fabric scraps everywhere. It is a bit messy to be honest, but we know where every single item is kept. We don't use any fancy systems, just a notebook and our own memory. That is how it has been for us in Talwandi for years.
