Jagdamba Bartan

Our shop, Jagdamba Bartan, sits on Chhawani Road where the traffic is almost always moving. Inside, it’s a bit of a maze with stacks of stainless steel pots and pans reaching almost to the ceiling. We have everything from tiny spoons to large cooking vessels used for big family gatherings. It gets quite noisy when we’re moving stock around because all that metal clinks together. We don't have a lot of room to walk, so we have to be careful not to knock anything over. The sunlight comes through the front door and hits the shiny plates, which can be quite bright in the afternoons. People from the nearby houses come in when they need something new for their kitchen. We spend time dusting the shelves because the road outside kicks up a lot of dirt. It’s a straightforward business without any bells or whistles. We sit behind the counter and wait for customers to tell us what they’re looking for. Sometimes they want to see ten different sizes of the same pot before they pick one. We don't mind, it’s just part of the day. Chhawani Road is a lively place to work, even if it gets a bit loud with the horns. We keep our records in a simple notebook and don't bother with much else. It’s just a regular shop where we sell things people need for their homes every day.
