Ishwar Tent House

Ishwar Tent House is located over by the Purani Sabji Mandi area. It’s not a quiet job at all. Most of our days are spent loading and unloading heavy metal poles, folded chairs, and big rolls of colorful fabric. When there is a wedding or a local function, we are up before the sun to get everything set up on time. The ground at the old mandi can be a bit uneven, so we have to be very careful how we balance the structures. It’s physically hard work and my back feels it some days, especially during the peak season when everyone wants to have their party on the same date. We have a small office where we keep all the bookings in a thick ledger book. Sometimes the ink smudges because it’s so humid and my hands are sweaty from the work. I spend a lot of time on the phone talking to workers or checking if the laundry sent back the drapes clean. When things are slow, we just sit outside the shop and watch the traffic go by the Purani Sabji Mandi. There’s a lot of history in this part of town and everyone knows everyone else. We’ve been providing these supplies for a long time, so people just know where to find us when they need a tent. It’s not glamorous work, just a lot of hauling stuff around and making sure the ropes are tied tight enough so nothing falls down if a breeze kicks up. We just keep going.
