S S Public School is in Valmikinagar, which is part of Kanakgiri in Koppal. It’s a dry area, so we value the trees we have in our small yard. The school building is two stories high, but the stairs are a bit narrow. We have to tell the kids to walk slowly every single day. Most of the families around here are regular working folks who want their children to learn English. We do our best with what we have. Our desks are old wood, and they have some scratches on them from years of use. We don't have a big budget for fancy things. The teachers use a lot of chalk, and their hands are always white by the end of the day. We have a small gate at the front that squeaks whenever someone enters. We really need to oil it, but we always forget. During the hot months, it gets very warm inside, so we keep the doors open for a breeze. We have a few cupboards filled with old charts and maps that we use for geography lessons. The kids like it when we go outside for PT. We don't have a proper playground, just a flat patch of ground. It's enough for a game of kho-kho. People in Kanakgiri know us as a basic, honest school. We don't make big promises, we just teach. Sometimes the water tank gets empty and we have to wait for the tanker. It usually comes on time, but not always.
