Westand Microcare Foundation

Our office is located at 214 Chittaranjan Avenue, which is one of the most famous and busiest roads in all of Kolkata. If you know the area, you know how much noise there is from the buses and the yellow taxis. We are in one of those older buildings with high ceilings and thick walls. It’s a bit of a climb up the stairs, but once you’re inside, it’s a bit quieter. We have a few fans that hum constantly to keep the air moving. The office is filled with old wooden cabinets full of files. We spend most of our hours typing away or talking on the phone. It’s a very traditional workspace; we still use a lot of paper and pens rather than doing everything on tablets. Sometimes the dust from the street gets in, so we are always wiping down the desks. There is a small balcony where we can stand and look at the traffic below when we need a break. We don’t have a fancy website or a marketing department. It’s just us here on CR Avenue, doing the daily work that needs to be done. We keep things simple and honest. If a lightbulb flickers, one of us just gets a chair and fixes it. That’s the kind of place this is. We just focus on the day-to-day operations and try to stay organized in the middle of the city’s chaos. It gets a bit dark in the corners, but we have enough lamps to see our work.
