Tutorial Class

I started Tutorial Class because I saw so many kids in the Dakshin Dari area needing a bit of extra help. We are over at 130/1 Dakshin Dari Road. It’s a simple spot, not too far from the main road but quiet enough to get some reading done. The space is small, just a couple of rooms where we fit in as many desks as comfortably possible. I’ve lived in this part of Kolkata for most of my life, so I wanted to do something close to home. It’s not a big institution with a lot of rules. We just show up, open the books, and try to make sense of what the teachers at school were talking about. Sometimes we have to move the chairs around to make room for a bigger group. It gets a bit crowded, but it’s a friendly kind of atmosphere. I handle the scheduling and the teaching mostly myself. You won't find any glossy posters on our walls, just some calendars and maybe a map. It’s a very down-to-earth setup. If you’re walking down Dakshin Dari Road, you might miss us if you aren't looking for the number. We don't have a huge sign or anything like that. Most of the families around here know where we are. It’s just a place where we try to make learning a little less stressful for the local students, and we've been doing that for several years now without much change.
