If you walk down 39 Balaram Bose 1st Lane in Bhowanipore, you will find us. It is one of those typical narrow Kolkata lanes where everyone knows everyone else’s business. Sushanta Mala'S Grohita Foundation started because we saw a lot of folks in this part of South Kolkata struggling with small things that shouldn't be so hard. The office isn't much to look at. We have some old wooden chairs and a ceiling fan that makes a bit of noise, but it works for what we need. We don't have a team of experts or anything like that. It is just local people from the neighborhood who care about Bhowanipore. We spend a lot of time just talking to neighbors. Sometimes a family needs help with a hospital bill, or a kid needs some extra help with school stuff. We try to step in where we can. It’s not about being a big charity. It is more about being good neighbors. The lane gets crowded in the evenings, and things can get a bit loud, but that is just how life is here. We like being right in the middle of it. We don't bother with fancy brochures or social media stuff much. We would rather just get things done. If you are passing by the lane, you can usually see one of us sitting by the door.
