Sonkolpo Association

We are tucked away in a small lane in Bediadanga, over in the 700039 area of Kolkata. It is 2nd Lane, 5A/4 to be exact. If you walk down the lane, you’ll find us easily enough. It’s a quiet spot compared to the main roads nearby. Sonkolpo Association is basically just a group of us from around the neighborhood. We started doing things together a while back because there was always someone who needed a hand with something. Whether it is helping out with a local event or just making sure the street is kept clean, we just pitch in when we can. We don't have a fancy setup or anything like that. Our meetings usually happen in a small room with a fan that makes a lot of noise. We talk about local issues and how we can help the families living around here. It isn't a big operation with lots of money. Most of what we do comes from just putting our own time and a bit of cash together. We have lived here for a long time and we know almost everyone on the street. It feels like a small village inside the big city. Sometimes we organize a small gathering for the kids or help an older neighbor with their chores. It’s just about being good neighbors and looking out for each other. That’s really all there is to it, nothing more complicated than that.
