Soma Bhattacharya Welfare Foundation

We are located at 190/1 Raipur Road in Kolkata. It is a familiar spot for anyone living around this part of town. Soma Bhattacharya Welfare Foundation is a small operation. We started it because we saw a lot of gaps in how people were being looked after in our local area. We do not have a glossy office with a receptionist. Usually, you will just find one or two of us sitting around a wooden desk with a fan whirring overhead. It is a bit cramped with all the boxes and papers, but we make it work. We focus on whatever comes our way—sometimes it is helping a kid with school fees, other times it is helping a family with medical bills. We are not a big name, and we do not try to be. We just want to be useful to the people living on Raipur Road and the streets nearby. Kolkata is a big city, but our world is this neighborhood. We know the shopkeepers and the people at the tea stall. Most of our work happens through word of mouth. Someone knows someone who needs help, and they end up at our door. We do not have a big budget, so we have to be careful with every rupee. It is just honest work by local people who care about their neighbors. We have been at this address for a long time.
