Sikshatan

Sikshatan is located right on M B Road, near where it meets Olay Candi Road in the Udaypur area. It’s a familiar spot for most people living around here in Kolkata 700049. The building is an older one, and we’ve been using this space for quite a while now. It’s not a very fancy setup, just some basic rooms with benches and a lot of books stacked up against the walls. We have a small courtyard in the middle where people wait or talk between sessions. It can get a bit hot in the afternoons, but we have some old fans that do their best to keep the air moving. The floors are made of that old red oxide that you don’t see much anymore, and they have a few cracks here and there. We don't have a lot of staff or a big management team; it’s just a few of us who live nearby and keep the place running. People drop in at all hours to ask about classes or just to borrow a book. It’s a very relaxed atmosphere and we don't have a lot of formal rules. We just try to make sure there is a quiet place for people to study and learn. The traffic on M B Road can be quite loud, but once you step inside, it feels a lot calmer. It’s just a simple, local place that has become part of the neighborhood over the years.
