Satwik Cement is based at 7A, Bentinck St, which is quite close to the Calcutta GPO. Bentinck Street is a legendary part of the city, known for its shops and the constant flow of people. Our office is in an older building that has a lot of charm, even if the lift is a bit moody sometimes. We’ve been here for a long time, and we’ve seen the city change quite a bit from our windows. The office is pretty simple—just some desks, chairs, and a lot of ledgers and paperwork. We don’t go in for any of that modern office decor. It’s a place for work, not for show. You can hear the trams rattling by and the general hum of the city all day. We handle the cement business in a very direct way. We talk to our customers like they’re real people, not just numbers in a system. There’s no mission statement on the wall or anything like that. We just want to make sure the orders get where they need to go. Our team is small and we’ve all worked together for years, so we don’t need many rules. If a problem comes up, we just sit down and figure out how to fix it over a cup of tea. It’s a steady, quiet way to run things. 7A Bentinck St is where we are, right in the thick of things.
