Our office is at 16/1 Lord Sinha Road, which most people know as Cal 71. It’s an old part of the city, and the building reflects that with its high ceilings and thick walls. It’s a very central location, so it’s convenient, but the traffic on Lord Sinha Road can be a real headache during the morning rush. The building has that specific smell of old paper and dust that you find in a lot of Kolkata’s older structures. We have a few rooms where we keep our files and the computers. The windows are large, but they’re usually kept closed because of the noise from the street and the constant car horns. We’ve been here for a while, and the furniture is a bit of a mix of different styles that don't really match. There’s a big overhead light that hums, so we mostly use the smaller desk lamps. People come in and out all day, and there’s always someone looking for a specific form or waiting to talk to one of us. It’s a busy atmosphere but not in a polished way. We usually have piles of books and papers on every available surface. It’s just how we work. When the rains come, the street outside often gets some puddles, so you have to be careful when you’re walking to the main road to catch a bus or a cab. It’s a bit worn out but it works.
