Pledge For India Foundation is over here at Flat 302 on the third floor of the 48/1A building on Gariahat Road. It’s a busy spot in Kolkata, as anyone who knows the area can tell you. People are always rushing past outside. We’ve been set up in this space for a bit now, just getting on with what needs doing. It isn’t a fancy corporate setup or anything like that. It’s just a regular flat where we keep our files and meet up to talk about the work. Sometimes the lift is a bit slow, so we end up taking the stairs. It gets quite warm in the afternoons, but the location is handy because everything is close by. We don’t have a massive team, just a few of us who show up and handle the paperwork and the planning. Gariahat has its own rhythm, and we’re just a small part of it. We try to keep things organized, though it gets a bit cluttered with papers sometimes. Dealing with the day-to-day tasks takes up most of our time here. It is nothing too complicated, just honest work from a small office in south Kolkata. If you’re walking down Gariahat Road, you might not even notice the building among all the shops, but we’re up there on the third floor. We just wanted to let people know where we are and that we’re around. It is a practical place for us to operate from.
