You can find us over at Patiram, right near the BSF gate. It’s a busy area with trucks and people always moving around. Maa Ratanti Jute Industry is run out of Ranjit Dharpar’s place. Jute is a big part of life in this part of the country, and we’re right in the middle of it. It’s a dusty job, working with the fibers and making sure everything is processed right. The smell of raw jute is something you get used to pretty quick. We aren’t a massive factory with thousands of workers, just a small team trying to keep the tradition of jute alive. We spend a lot of time grading the fibers and checking the quality. It’s hard on the hands, but it’s good work. Being near the gate means there’s always something happening, which keeps us on our toes. We don’t spend much time on fancy marketing or anything. We just focus on the jute. If the machines break down, we fix them ourselves. If the weather is too humid, we adjust. It’s a practical business for practical people. We’ve been at it for a while now, and we know most of the farmers who bring us their crops. It’s a community thing, really. We just show up every morning and get to work on the next batch of fiber that comes through our doors.
