You can find B P Agarwal at No. 27 on Nyniappa Naicken Street, right on the first floor. This is in Park Town, which is one of the oldest and busiest parts of the city. If you’ve ever walked down this street, you know it’s crowded with shops and people carrying bundles of goods all over the place. Our place is up a narrow set of stairs. Once you get inside, it’s a different world from the noisy street outside, though you can still hear the horns honking. We have stacks of inventory everywhere. We deal with a lot of trade and wholesale items, so there is always something being packed or unpacked by the staff. It’s a bit of a maze in here with all the boxes. We don’t have any fancy lighting or decorations. Just a few fans going and some old desks where we do our paperwork. We’ve been in Park Town for a long time. We know the other shopkeepers on the street and we all sort of look out for each other. The work is mostly about keeping track of what’s coming in and what’s going out. It can be stressful when the deliveries are late or the street is blocked, but we have learned to be patient. We don't do much marketing or anything like that. People just know us from being here so long. We just open up in the morning and stay until the work is finally done and we can lock up.
