Komagata Maru Foundation

You can find us down at B8-70 on the New Chandan Nagar road in Maheshtala, over in South Ja. It is a bit of a trek if you are coming from the main city, but we like it out here. This foundation was set up without any big fanfare or announcements. We just found this space and started working. The name has a lot of history behind it, and we try to respect that in our own small way. It is not a fancy office at all. We have got some old chairs and a lot of books stacked up in the corners. Sometimes the rain gets a bit loud on the roof, but it is a good place to think. We spend a lot of our time dealing with local issues. Folks from around here stop by sometimes just to say hello or ask a simple question. We don't have a receptionist, so whoever is closest to the door usually gets up to answer it. It is a very hands-on kind of place. We aren't into big marketing campaigns or anything like that. We just prefer to keep things low-key. The work can be tiring, and we don't always get it right on the first try. But we are still here, year after year. It feels like we are part of the furniture in this neighborhood now. We are just a few people trying to make sense of things and help where we can.
