Kenilworth, The

Our spot is right on the corner of Little Russel Street. Most mornings, you can hear the city waking up before the sun is even fully out. We’ve got this building at 1 & 2, and it takes a fair amount of effort to keep it looking decent for everyone who visits. It isn't always easy because the Kolkata weather can be pretty rough on the walls and the paint over the years. We spend a lot of time walking up and down the halls, making sure everything is where it should be. The neighbors know us, and we know them. It is that kind of place. People come here because they know the address and they know we’ve been here for a while. We aren't trying to be the newest or the loudest place on the block. We just provide a place for people to stay when they are in this part of town. Sometimes the internet is slow or the power flickers, but that’s just life in the city, and we get it fixed as fast as we can. Our team is mostly local folks who have been working here for years. They know which windows rattle when the wind picks up and which floorboards might creak a little. It’s an old-fashioned way of doing things, but it works for us and the people who come to see us. We just keep the doors open and the lights on, waiting for the next person to arrive.
