Jamal Tutorial Hall

Jamal Tutorial Hall is located on Dr Suresh Sarkar Road in the 700014 area of Kolkata. We’ve actually got the address listed twice for some reason, but it’s just the one place here on the road. It’s a very lived-in space. You can tell that people have been coming here for a long time just by looking at the walls and the desks. We don’t really go in for much decoration. It’s just a hall where we gather to go over lessons. Most of the time, the place is filled with the sound of someone explaining a math problem or a history chapter. It’s a very plain environment, which I think is better because there aren't many things to distract you. Outside, Dr Suresh Sarkar Road is usually quite busy with people going to work or the market. We are just one of the many small establishments along this stretch. Usually, I’m the one who opens up in the morning and makes sure everything is ready. It’s not a complicated operation. We just have a schedule and we try to stick to it as much as possible. Sometimes the rain makes a lot of noise on the roof and we have to speak a bit louder, but that’s just life in Kolkata. We’ve been part of this neighborhood for years and most of the families around here know who we are. It’s just a regular, honest place to study and we try to keep it that way for everyone.
