Jaibochashi India Foundation

You will find Jaibochashi India Foundation at 11A/1A Mahendra Chatterjee Lane. It is one of those old-school Kolkata streets where space is tight and everything is close together. We are tucked into a small space here, surrounded by the sounds of the neighborhood. The name of our foundation hints at what we care about, which is farming and the people who do it. We don’t have a big flashy showroom or anything like that. It is just a place where we sit and figure out how to help farmers get by. Most of the people involved here have some connection to the land themselves. We spend a lot of our time on the phone or writing letters to various departments. It is honest work, even if it feels a bit slow sometimes. The heat in the afternoon can be tough in this building, so we go through a lot of water and tea to stay sharp. We don’t have a PR team or a big budget for ads. We just rely on people hearing about us from their friends or family. It is a very local way of doing things. We are just a group of people trying to make sense of the agricultural situation and offering a bit of support where it is needed. It is not always easy, especially with how the world is changing, but we stay at it because it feels important to the community here.
