J. N. Enterprises

Surya Sen Street gets really crowded around noon, and it is sometimes hard to get the shutters all the way up if someone parked a bike too close. J. N. Enterprises has been here at 59/1A for a good while now. Inside, there are stacks of papers and folders that probably need sorting, but we know where everything is. The ceiling fan makes a bit of a clicking sound when it is on the highest setting. Most days start with a cup of tea from the stall around the corner while we wait for the first person to walk in. It is not a big place, just enough room for the desk and some shelves. Sometimes the rain leaks a little near the back window if the wind is blowing the wrong way. We spend a lot of time just talking to the neighbors about how the traffic is getting worse every year. It feels like the whole city passes by this door. We usually keep the lights dim in the afternoon to stay cool since the sun hits the front glass pretty hard. There is an old calendar on the wall from three years ago that nobody bothered to take down because the picture of the mountains is nice. It is just a regular day-to-day operation here. Nothing fancy, just the usual work and trying to keep the dust off the ledgers. The floorboards are a bit worn down near the entrance, but that just shows how many people have stepped inside.
