Computer Hradware

If you have ever been to Grant Lane in Kolkata, you know it is a very narrow and crowded street, but that is where you find everything you need. Our shop, Computer Hradware, is at 2B Grant Lane. My name is Dipak Baid, and I spend most of my life right here among the boxes of computer parts. This part of the city is always moving, with people carrying loads on their heads and the constant sound of horns and shouting. It is a bit chaotic, but I like the energy of the market. We deal with all kinds of computer bits and pieces. Some days I am just counting inventory or talking to the other shopkeepers on the lane. We don't have a fancy website or a marketing department. If people need hardware, they usually just know to come to Grant Lane and look for us. The space is small, and every inch is filled with something—mostly stuff for PCs. It can get really humid in the monsoon, and the lane gets a bit muddy, but we stay open regardless. Dealing with people face-to-face is how business has always been done here. I’ve seen the technology change so much over the years, but the way we run the shop stays pretty much the same. It’s just me and the hardware, trying to make a living in the heart of Kolkata.
