Our place is at 2E Ganesh Banerjee Lane in the Dhakuria part of Kolkata. The zip code here is 700031. It’s a narrow lane, like many others in this part of the city. Ibm India has been operating out of this spot for a bit. It’s a bit of a squeeze getting cars down the lane, so most of us just walk from the main road. The office is on the second floor. It is a simple setup with mismatched chairs and a lot of wires running along the walls for the internet. We have a small balcony where we stand sometimes to get some air. Dhakuria is a busy neighborhood, so there is always noise from the street—horns honking or people calling out. We are used to it by now. Inside, it is just us working through our daily lists. We don’t have a receptionist or anything like that. If the bell rings, whoever is closest to the door gets it. The walls are painted an off-white color that has seen better days, but it doesn't bother us. We are more focused on the work at hand. It is an honest day’s work in a very local setting. We like being in this part of Kolkata because everything we need is just around the corner.
