H. K. Ladies Beauty Parlour & Training Centre is tucked away at 46/N-71, Prafulla Nagar in the Dum Dum area. Being near the HDFC Bank helps people find the building without too much trouble. It is not just a place for hair and skin work, but I also teach local girls who want to learn the trade. I’ve been here for several years now. The space is divided so that the training doesn’t get in the way of the customers. It’s a bit cramped when I have more than three students at once, but we make it work. We have basic chairs and mirrors, nothing fancy. I focus on teaching the practical stuff that they will actually use. Prafulla Nagar is a busy neighborhood and we get all kinds of people coming in. Some want a simple threading and some want to learn how to do a full facial. I use standard products that I buy from the market nearby. I don't have any big staff, just me and the girls who are learning. Sometimes the power goes out and we have to use hand fans, but that's just how it is here. I keep the shop open until late evening most days. It’s a quiet life of working and teaching. I don't have a big sign outside, just a small board near the entrance. Most of the ladies know me by name. We just do our work.
