Gudhia Dakshin Para Seba Swambar Gasti Foundation is out in the village of Indradaga in Murshidabad. We operate from the house of the late Jaimuddin SK’s son. It’s a very rural setting, far away from the big cities. The air is cleaner here, but the roads are narrow and can be quite bumpy if you’re driving. Most people around here walk or use cycles to get around. Our office is really just a part of the family home that has been set aside for this work. It feels very personal because of that. You might see some goats or chickens wandering around outside the door while we are trying to get things organized inside. Murshidabad has a lot of history, but in Indradaga, life is mostly about the fields and the daily routine. We don't have high-speed internet or fancy gadgets. We use notebooks and pens for most of our record-keeping. It’s a slow pace of life, but we like it that way. When someone visits, we usually offer them a glass of water and sit down on the porch to talk. There is no waiting room or formal appointment system. If we are there, we talk. If we are out in the village, people just wait or come back later. It’s a very traditional way of doing things, but it fits the community here in West Bengal. We handle everything from this small house without any big corporate help or expensive offices.
