Doing this in the 700028 area of Kolkata has been an interesting journey. Geography is one of those subjects that people either really like or find a bit confusing with all the maps and climate patterns. I set this up as a way to make those maps a bit clearer for the students living around here. My workspace is filled with globes and old atlases that have seen better days. It’s not a polished classroom by any means, but it does the job. Most of the kids come by after their regular school hours, looking a bit tired but ready to get through their lessons. We spend a lot of time tracing river paths and talking about soil types. Sometimes we just look at the weather outside and try to relate it to what’s in the textbook. Living and working in this part of the city means dealing with the usual noise and the occasional power cut, but we just manage. I’ve lived in Kolkata my whole life, so the pace of things here feels natural to me. I don't use any fancy technology, just some good old-fashioned chalk and a lot of talking. It’s about getting the basics right so the students don't feel overwhelmed when exam time rolls around. It’s just me here, keeping things moving one lesson at a time, without any big fuss or complicated schedules.
