Dutta Academy

Dutta Academy is situated on Durgapur Station Road in Kolkata 700065. Being so close to the station road means there is always a lot of movement outside. You can hear the trains if you listen closely, and there’s a constant stream of people walking toward the station. Our space is fairly simple. We have a couple of rooms that we’ve set up with long tables and chairs. It’s not the biggest place, so we have to be careful about how we use the space. The walls are a pale color and have some marks where chairs have bumped against them over the years. We don't have a big lobby or anything like that; you just walk right into the main area. We keep our supplies in a metal cupboard in the corner that squeaks every time you open it. We’ve thought about fixing it, but it’s just one of those things you live with. Every day we come in, sweep the floor, and get ready for whoever is coming by. We don’t use any complicated systems to run the place. It’s mostly just notebooks and a big calendar on the wall to keep track of everything. It’s a practical environment. We don't spend money on fancy decorations because it doesn't really matter for what we do. It’s just a regular spot on a busy road where we get our work done and go home.
