Doly Welfare Foundation

If you head down to Sadhurhat in the South Parganas, you might find us at Doly Welfare Foundation. We operate out of Shubhra Prakash Bhandari’s place in Ramnagar Dhukrijhara. It’s a rural area, and we like it that way. We’re just a small group of local people who wanted to help the village out. We don't have a big staff or any corporate funding. It’s mostly just us using our own time and whatever bits of money we can scrape together. We help with whatever is needed that day. If a neighbor’s roof is leaking or a child needs help with their studies, we see what can be done. It’s very informal. You’ll often find Shubhra outside talking to someone who just walked in from the fields. We don't have set hours really, though we try to be around when people aren't working. The air is fresh out here, but the life is hard. We understand that because we live it too. We aren't trying to be heroes. We just think that if you live in a place, you should look after it. Sometimes we have meetings under the trees when it’s too hot inside. We don't write long reports. We just do the work and move on to the next thing. It’s a simple life and a simple foundation. We just do our best for Ramnagar and the folks who live here alongside us.
