We deal with microcredit, which is basically just giving small loans to people who can't get help from big banks. Maybe someone needs a bit of cash to buy more stock for their tea stall or a woman wants to buy a sewing machine to work from home. That’s where we come in. We don't have a big corporate office with glass walls. It’s a plain room where we sit down and talk to people about their lives and what they need. Money is a sensitive thing, so we try to keep it simple and honest. We’ve seen how a small amount of money can really help a family get through a tough month. The 700016 area is always moving and people are always working hard to make ends meet. We are just a small part of that. We spend a lot of time checking papers and making sure everything is done right, but we also listen to the stories behind the numbers. It’s not easy running a foundation like this in West Bengal.
