Century Cement

Century Cement is located at 79, Girish Park North in Kolkata. We are right in the heart of the city, zip code 700 006. It’s an old building, like many others in this part of town. We handle the cement business from here. It’s not where the cement is actually made, but it's where we manage everything. The office is small and cramped. We have rows of desks pushed together and files everywhere. You can hear the trams and the cars outside all day long. Girish Park is a noisy place, but we like it. It’s lively. We spend our time talking to dealers and making sure the bags get to the construction sites. Sometimes the phones won't stop ringing and it gets a bit frantic. Other times, it's slow and we just chat about football or the news. We have a small tea stall just around the corner that we go to twice a day. The walls are painted a pale yellow that’s peeling in the corners. We don’t bother fixing it because we’re too busy. It’s a very old-fashioned way of working, I suppose. We don't use much fancy technology. Just notebooks, pens, and a couple of old computers. We’ve been here for years and we know the neighbors. It’s just how the business runs in this part of Kolkata. It's a bit dusty but that is just part of the cement trade. It is what it is.
