Calcom Cement India Limited is based over here at 36/35 Jr Road in New Alipore. Kolkata is a big city, but this specific neighborhood has its own rhythm that we’ve grown used to. Cement is heavy business, and even though this is mostly an administrative spot, there is always a lot of coordination happening on the phones and over the desks. The office has big windows, but the view is just the busy street outside with taxis honking and people rushing to catch the bus. We spend a lot of time talking to builders and suppliers who are always in a hurry. Our floors are a bit scuffed from all the boots coming in and out, but we don't bother polishing them too much since they'll just get dirty again by tomorrow. We have a small corner where we keep the kettle for coffee because the winters here get surprisingly chilly. It’s not a quiet place, but the noise of the city keeps us energized. Sometimes we have to stay late to finish up the ledger entries, especially at the end of the month. Working in New Alipore means we are close to everything, which helps when we need to run errands or meet someone for a quick chat about a delivery. We just do what needs doing to keep the supply moving along the chain.
