Burnpur Cement Ltd. is tucked away on the second floor of Gujarat Mansion. You’ll find us at No. 14 Bentinck Street, which is always a bit of a chaotic place to be. The traffic outside never really stops, and you can hear the horns honking all day long while we sit at our desks. Getting up to the second floor is part of our daily exercise. The building itself has that old Calcutta feel to it, with thick walls and hallways that have seen better days. We don’t have any of those modern glass elevators or fancy lobbies. It’s just an old-fashioned office where we keep track of the cement orders and talk to the suppliers. Sometimes the paperwork piles up on the desks and things look a bit cluttered, but we know where everything is. The windows look out over the street, but mostly we just see the tops of buses and people rushing by. It gets a bit stuffy in the summer months, but we have some fans going to keep the air moving. We’ve got a small corner for making tea, which is where most of the actual talking happens. It’s a plain workplace for people who don't mind a bit of grit. We aren't trying to impress anyone with the decor. We just handle the business of cement from this old spot on Bentinck Street and try to get through the day's list.
