We are down in the Barisha area of Kolkata, right at 12, Jagat Roy Chowdury Road. It’s near Saker Bazar, which is a place that stays busy from morning until night. Our building is one of those older ones you see around this part of the city. It has a lot of character, even if it’s a bit worn down in places. We’ve been operating out of this address for quite a while. The office itself is pretty basic. We have our desks pushed up against the walls to make more room in the middle. The floors are old stone, and they stay relatively cool even when it’s humid outside. Kolkata weather can be tough, so we rely on the fans quite a bit. Working in Saker Bazar means there is always a crowd nearby, and the sound of horns and people talking is just part of the background. We don’t use any fancy systems or have a lobby. People just walk in the door and find us. We spend our time managing the cement supply for this part of town. It involves a lot of talking to contractors and checking on the warehouse. We try to keep things simple. There’s no need for anything complicated when you’re just trying to move bags of cement from one place to another. We know the local streets well and we know how to get things where they need to go in this busy city. Sometimes the rain floods the road outside, but we just carry on as usual, getting the logs updated and the trucks moving.
