About Alyana Rehabilitation Foundation – Charity & Non Profit Organisations in Kolkata
If you know M.G. Road, you know how loud it gets. We are up on the first floor at 60/1, right above the main street noise. It’s a bit of a climb up the stairs, especially on hot days when the air is thick and heavy. Tapashi Banerjee handles a lot of the coordination here. We started this place because we saw a lot of folks struggling and figured we could do something to help them out. It’s not a shiny clinic with new paint. The walls could really use a scrub, and the floor creaks a bit, but it’s our spot. We spend most of our hours talking to families and trying to figure out the next steps for people coming through. It’s heavy work sometimes, and we all get a bit worn out by the time Friday comes around. There’s always someone on the phone or a visitor sitting on the bench waiting. We don't have fancy brochures or any of that. Most people find us because someone else told them we were here. We drink a lot of water and try to keep the fans going. It’s just a regular group of people working together. Sometimes the paperwork gets behind because we’re busy talking to someone who really needs to be heard. That’s just the way we run things here on the first floor. It’s practical and it’s what we know how to do every day.
