If you know Burrabazaar, then you know how crowded and loud it gets. That’s exactly where we are. Our office is at 37 Nalini Seth Road, right on the first floor. This part of Kolkata, 700007, is always moving. You can hear the handcarts and the shouting of the traders from our windows all day. The building is one of those old Burrabazaar structures with thick walls and high ceilings. Getting up to the first floor involves a bit of a climb on some narrow stairs, but once you’re inside, it’s a bit more peaceful. We have a lot of stuff tucked into corners because space is tight in this area. There’s usually a pot of tea sitting somewhere. The light comes in from the front, but the back rooms stay pretty dark even at noon. It’s not the kind of place where you’ll find fancy carpets or air conditioning in every room. We just have our desks and our chairs and the work that keeps us busy. Nalini Seth Road is a landmark in itself, so people usually find us eventually. It’s a gritty, hardworking part of the city, and we fit right in with the rest of the shops and businesses around us. It is just how things are in this part of town. It is busy and dusty but it is where we belong and we know the neighbors well.
