Our shop is at number 2 in the Palkar Complex, right in Kagal, Kolhapur. It’s a busy little area at Khardekar Chowk, not too far from the Ram Mandir. If you come by in the morning, you’ll likely see us loading up the bamboo poles and the heavy rolls of fabric onto the back of a small truck. Decorating for events in Kagal means we are always on our feet, dealing with whatever the weather throws at us. The shop itself is mostly a storage space for all the decorative items, lights, and seating we use. It smells a bit like marigolds and old wood in there. We don't have a fancy showroom; we just show people photos of what we did last week at some other hall or house. It’s a lot of physical work, climbing ladders and tying knots, but we’ve gotten used to it over the years. Being near the Ram Mandir means there is always something going on in the neighborhood, so we feel right in the heart of things. We aren't the type to wear suits or sit behind desks; our clothes are usually stained with paint or dust by the end of the shift. We just try to get the job done right so the wedding or the party looks decent. It's an honest living and we've been doing it right here in Kolhapur for a long time. There is always some event to prepare for.
