Mbw Brick Factory

Our yard at Mbw Brick Factory is out on Chikkaballapur Main Road in Sangondahalli. It is a big open space because we need room for the kilns and all the raw bricks to dry out in the sun. If you walk around here, your shoes will definitely get covered in red mud or white dust depending on the month. It depends on the season really. We start early in the morning before the sun gets too high because once it gets hot, working near the fire is tough. The trucks come in and out from the main road all day long. You can hear the sound of bricks clinking together as they get loaded onto the back of the lorries. It’s a heavy sound. We don't have a fancy office, just a small shed where we sit and take orders. Most of our time is spent out in the dirt checking the batches and making sure the piles are straight. Sangondahalli is a quiet enough place until the tractors start moving. We see a lot of local workers every day. Sometimes the rain messes up our schedule and we have to cover everything up fast with plastic sheets. It’s hard work and it’s dirty, but that’s how you make bricks. We don’t use any big computers or fancy systems here at Mbw Brick Factory. We just know how the clay feels and how long it needs to bake in the heat. The main road is always busy with traffic going toward Chikkaballapur, but inside our gates, it's just the same routine day after day. We keep working until the light fades out.
